Brown feathers or gray feathers or speckled feathers would be lust as feathery. But Mrs. Skimmer wanted a white lining and Skim- mer knew that if she wanted white, white it would have to be if he had to fly his wings of! to find those white feathers. It was the worst season for white feathers he had ever known. This year in all that neighborhood there wasn't a white Hen, a white Duck, or a white Pigeon. Re had visited every iarmyard for a long distance around. Bo you can guess how excited and happy the Skim- mers were when Farmer Brown's boy tossed a handful of feathers in the air and one was white, Just one. A Merry Little Breeze, one d blather West \‘l'ind's ciiildrlen. started of! with it. Mrs. Skimmer darted after it and snatched it away and carried it home in triumph. She was back just in time to see Farmer Brown's boy hold one up. Skimmer hesitated. but. not Mrs. Skimmer. She believes firmly in getting things while the getting is possible. Farmer Brown's boy chuckled. He went in‘ the house while Skim- mer abd Mrs. skimmer darted this way and that over the doo ard. all the time twittering exc tedly. Would he bring out more white feathers? He did. He brought out some in a paper bag, some from an old pillow no longer being used. As before he held one u-p. This time Skimmer matched it. He happen- ed to be nearest and he couldn't allow Mrs. Skimmer to think that he was teas daring than she. Mrs. Skimmer tried to take it from him, but he didn't let her have it until they reached the house. There he gave it to her. He knew it was useless for him to try to place that feather in the nest. Wherever he might put it she would put it somewhere else. So at the doorway he gave it to her and hurried back for ahother. Farmer Brownfs boy teased him by holding up a brown feather. Skimmer darted in close, but re- fused to take it. Mrs. Skimmer joined him and the two darted around Farmer Brown's -boy so close that their wings almost brushed him. All the time they were scolding him. Be tossed a handful of brown feathers in the air. The Skimmers didn't even look at them. They scolded harder than ever. sure that he had more White feathers. . The Merry Little Breezes became livelier. They were having great fun_..with those brown feathers. Farmer Brown's boy picked out a handful of white ones and tossed them as high as he could. The Merry Little Breezes caught them up and blew them here and blew them there. And because they were very light some went sailing high overhead; Some sailed one way and some another. After them wheeled and darted two as excited Swallows as ever lived. Skimmer caught one feather in rrldair, then drirte after another. When he opened his bill to tel“; m]; one he dropped the one he already had. Such fun! The Merry Little Breezes blew; the fluffy little feathers sailed; Mr. and Mrs. Skimmer flew and snatched and twitteredzsand Farmer Brown's boy laulhed. Such funl Those Swallows were working nun, bug didn't know it. This was because work was fun. ,, ,, m| Ito-Operative Meeting Harrington Hall April 21st. W. R.
