CHURCH NEW YORK, Jan. 20.-More than an hour was required to count the money contributed Sunday at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church for tho cause of foreign missions. Foi- . lowing the Rev. Dr. John Henry Jew- 'ett's appeal for the annual collection pledges and money totalling $39,300 were gathered, the silver plates that _were passed around being so heaped that the ushers had to hold their hands over them to keep from spilling the money and slips of paper. Between $30,000 and $31,000 in cash was collected. The rest was ,iii checks, drafts or pledges. Sev- eral persons gave $5,000. There were other contributions of $3,000. $2,000 and many for $1000. Several ilve hundred dollar bills were placed in the plates. It is believed that the collection _will pass the $40,000 mark today, and reach $45,000 by next Sunday.
