Zulu acted badly, and took fourth posi- tion in the heat, while Messenger took first, Planter second, Flora Temple third, and Houest Joe distanced. Iu the secend heat Zulu and Messenger trotted surprising- ly, and although Planter galloped lively he was upable to save his distance. Flora Temple was badly cut under the shoulder, and otherwise unfit for the heat. She fell to the rear, trotted in leisurely and was also distameed. The heat was given to Zulu, with Messenger second. Zulu also won tlie next two heats. and therefore, the race. The speed exhibited by Zulu and Messenger was something unusual and with a little care and training they will prove themselves trotters close on the 2.40 elass. The three year old race, in which four starte’, was won by a handsome_ mare awned by Mr. P. Read, of Hope River, with Mr. John Wedleck’s Sweep second, and R. Fitzsimmons’ Lady Duft third. Tur Tea-party held yesterday at Cardi- gan Road in aid of St. Cuthbert’s Church was in every respect 2 grand success. The train which arrived at the grounds from this city and other interinediate stations contained over four lundred and fifty ex- cursionists. These from this city speak highly of the treatment they received at the hands of the good people of Cardigan The Tea Party at Stanhope. luz Tea party held at Stanhope in aid of the new Presbyterian Church was weil patrenised by people from Charlottetown, as well as the districts surrounding Stan- hope. The drive te and from Stanhope is one of the pleasanteést on the Island, and was thoroughly enjoyed by those who dreve from the city. The-committee deserve the thanks of the public for the manner in which they treated their guests. We ledrn that the tea was a great financial! success. The Excursion to Pictou. ‘Tue excursion to Pictou was patronized by over one hundred and seventy persons, The steamer left at 7.30 in the morning, and after a very pleasant passage arrived at Pictou, where the excursionists spent several hours and returned—leaving at 4 o'clock. The excursionists are delighted with the attention paid them by the captain and other officers of the boat, who lost no oppurtunity to make everything most agr-eable. a B. C. Sunday School Excursion. About four hundred parents and children attended the Bible Ghristian excursion to Orwell in the steamer ‘‘ Heather Belle,” yesterday. We learn that the excursion was all that could be desired, and the ex- cursionists returned weil pleased with the trip to Orwell.
