ject oi the gathering. namely to cele-
brate the anniversary of the seventy
eighth birthday of the aged and res-
pected hostess. After a splendid pro-
gram, suitable tu the occasion, includ-
ing n speech by Mr. Edward Anneur,
a rt»tur|icti soldier relating some of ills
experiences at the i'ront, and n solo by
Mr. Tyler Parkman, Mrs. W. A.

pre.-icnterl Mrs. Jones with a beauti-
fully; hound volume ot’ Tennyson;which
ow`lg to the literary talent of the
vunt=r:il>le lady, was a most approp-
riate gift. Mr. Jones replied on behalf
of ills amiable spouse, thanking the
donors for their kindness and consid-
eration and extending to them at all
times a hearty welcome to_his home.
After the serving of ice cream and
cake and the wants ot the inner man
had been fully supplied. The remaind-
er ofthe evening was spent in dancing
Mr. James Lourie the expert violinist
furnishing the music. accompanied' on
,the piano ~b'y the Misses Mae Mc-
Queen, Millicent Campbell,Edith Vick-
erson and tllenllnie McLean, A spec-
ial feature and one which added great-
ly to the enjoyment of the evening
was a step dance by the hostess, Ai-
ter a short add-ress by Mr. Ralph Gor-
don in which he wished the aged con-
ple many more yours oi' happy'mar-
ried lite. The singing nr Auld Lang
Syne brought the merry party to a
close.
