THE CANADIAN NAVY. r
Hon. Mr. Prefoutalne who is now in
England was entertained the other day at
the Canada Club in Loudon and in the
course of his speech referred to the
Canadian navy that is to be. Hc has been
preparing the way for organising n navy
reserve in Canada and is nowfnegotlating
with the Admiralty to take over the naval
docks at Hullfnx and Esquimalt, which
cost the Imperial Government millions of
dollars. \Ve have already some fishery
cruisers on the Atlantic, the Pacific and
the great lakes, and these with our ice-
breukers give an impression of certain
preparations for naval warfare at all
seasons of the year.
Mr. Prefontaine speaks of these crui-
sers, docks and naval reserves that are to
be as “thefnucleus of the Canadian navy."
