If he can"t come to this conclu- sion then lt might be better for him if he took the course of actioni he was planning last week when he spoke about. retiring from ho:-I key. Of course Hughic will take no such action. He is drawing dnwnl too much money for playing under, Dugger McNeill and besides he is the only bona flde right winger on the club. 0 Q 0 Campbell's status as an all-star right winger is also being seriously, threatened this year. Hughle is liar) down in the scoring columns at this time and there doesn't seem to be much chance of his improving him- self during the next few weeks. In the meantime the Islanders Bob Gray. Llye Wlseman and Ronnie Hurst and the Millionaires Ronnie Rowe will have every opporq-inity adding to their scoring totals. O 0 0 The Islanders have shown a lot of scoring power down the right. wing side during recent games. Last week riizht winger Bob Gray stole the spotlight with his scoring feats by rapping holne seven tzoals. Last. night Lyle Wlseman and Hurst took over to account for all the Is- landers goals. The history of most clubs in the M.M.H.L, show a weakness down the right wing side. It seems summerside will have 13. team in that league. but. Ken- sington, which is having difficulty icing a team, may not. This would still make it. a three-team circuit. but it would comprise Summerside, R. C. A. F. and Spring Valley, in- stead of Kenslngton, R. C. A. F. and Spring valley as we had re- ported it. The airforce team under the tutelage of Frank Dunster, its one-time member .of an Olympic world-champion aggregation, won its first start from Spring Valley by the score of 8-5. We understood Ross Burns, sports editor of The Albatross, was between the pipes in that contest. seems Ross dab- bles in a lot of different kinds of sports. He is better-than-average playing coach in baseball. does a pretty fair job aiming basketballs at the hoops, and now we find him behind the goal-crcasc in hockey. Whethei- he plays 9. wicked hand in cribbage is at. present not known. Burns is a catcher in baseball, and there seems to be some sort of affinity between that position and goal-tending in hockey. Bob Schurman held down both jobs in his playing days, and so, we be- lieve, does Moncton's Tuffy Steeves. Bill Durnan was a soft- ball pitclier, however. and Paul Schurman, C and B backstop. plays on the forward line in hoc- key. so there are plenty of except- ions. We see by recent informatioii coming out of Halifax that Forbie Kennedy is the 1953 hockey sensat- ion of the Mai-ltimes. We can be- lieve that. We saw Forbie in action last year. and although at that time he was a little short on heft, he showed every promise of being an outstanding hockey player. Charlottetown can well be proud of him, and while we are on the subject, we're beginning to think down here in Summerside we have another 1953 hockey sensation in the person of Mark Delaney. Mark has played two games with the Moncton Hawks, scoring three goals and getting a like number of assists. In the account of the second game the writer says Delaney was in on Diguerre time and again in the third period, but was kept off the score sheet by Dlguei-re's brilliant stops. .Morey Hamilton says young Delaney shows 3. lot of promise. He's green. Morey says. but learns and fast, and if the kid gets proper coaching, he will be a sensation. The Hawks made Mark an attractive offer, but Mark will stay with the Sussex Juniors for the rest. of the season. "They've given me my chance in hockey this year," Mark says. "and I don't want to let them down." Lippy Gaudet, ice-maker de luxe at the Kinsmen Rink in summer- side, is having a Janitors benefit night at the rliik next Friday. Lip- py says he is icing a hockey game between teams in a class never seen before. The 4-6 year olds will strut their stuff in a short game before skating. , Had a. chat. with Frank Mac- Kinnon ,one of the members of the Booster Club in Charlottetown The Club is planning to bring a minstrel show to sununerside on Feb. Murph Chamberlain's Islmders maintained their sizzling drive towards top spot in the Maritime night by coming from behind to shade Sydney Millionaires 3-2 in a well and bitterly played game at the Forum. The Islanders fought back from under a 2-0 Sydney lead at the end of the first period. They tied the game at 2-: during the sec- ond session and shot the only counter of a. lively third session. Once more it was the vaunted Islanders that paid off. Cagey Lyle Wiseman fired two goals in the second period and Ronnie "Little the winner in the third. As a. result of the game the Is- landers move to within five points of the first place Halifax Atlantics. The locals have been undefeated in their last six games and have lost only two of their last sixteen contests. The Millionaires skated onto the ice last night without having won a game in Charlottetown this season and for sixty minutes they gave their best effort of the year as they strove to beat the Island- ers jinx. And they almost succeeded in tipping the apple cart. Several times in the final period they rode in on Al Millar but were outguess- ed by the Islanders netminder. The Mills raced into an early 2-0 lead on goals by Freddy Hilde- brand and Bill Mc.Donagh. Hilde- brand, who played an outstanding game, broke away to scoop up Alex Birukow's forward pass and beat Al Miller on a 20-foot shot. Millar got his pads on the puck but the disc trickled into the corner of the cage. Late in the same period oppor- tunist Bill McDonagh intercepted a. pass-o'ut inside the Islanders bluellne. He stickhanclled around one defenseman and fired the puck into an empty net as Al Mlllar came out to meet him. That ended the scoring for Syd- ney. The Islandcrs led by the Powers, Wiseman and Holdaway line, turned on the presure in the second period in a desperate ef- fort to get back in the game. They clicked at the 5.54 mark of the game with right. winger Wise- man reeling in searing shot be- hind Pidsodny from 20 feet out. Young Chuck Holdaway drew an assist on the goal which-was made possible through a rush by de- fenseman Gus Gustaveson. Big Gus steamed into the Syd- ney enl knocking Bill McDonag.h sprawling along the way. He got the puck back to Holdaway who passed to Wi.sema.n. The latter stickhanded past George Robert- son and blasted the black biscuit into the webbing. l The players set I fast pace around the midway mark as tem- pers rose near the breaking point. Wiseinan knotted the count at the 12.36 mark with a smart goal. He picked up the puck inside the Sydney line deked two clefcnsemen and flipped a shot from 35 feet. out that landed in the cordage before Pidsodny got his.eyc on the disc. The shot. was screened by a Syd- ney player snd Nick had no chance on the shot. The Millionaires roared back late in the period and had two great scoring chances. Eddy Mar. ineau set up Freddy Hildebrand about a minute later Alex Birukow had a goal-mouth opportunity to score but Mills: rose to the oc- casion each time. Eddy Marineau of Sydney drew the first penalty of the game early in the third period for holding Walter Pawlshyn. While he was off the Islanders had several good, chances but could not beat. Pid- aodny. l Gus Gustavdson almost scored the winner for the Islanders at the seven minute mark. He took a. pass from Teddy'Powers and his 30 foot shot hit the goal post. It was the second time that an Is- lander struck the post. Hub Beau- dry did the same thing early in the second period.
