Drought Ruins ,Valley Crops (C. P. by Gua.rdia.n’s Special Wire) KEN'I'V1'LLE, N.S. July 11-Field crops are diving up, vegetables are withering, and strawberry plant- ations are nearly ruined by a drought generally felt throughout the Annapolis Valley, Since June 8 when .30 inches fell there has been no beneficial rain Hbcording to a statement made to- night by Dr, W. S- Blair, superin- tendent of the Dominion Experi- mental Station here. Dr. Blair estimated that the strawberry crop would only be 25 per cent of last year’s yield. Root and grain crops had: stunted growth in the dry-as-dust earth he said. Raspberry growers claim they loo have been hard hit by the dry weather. One prominent grower es. tlmates only at 10 percent yield. But the main crop, apples, is so far safe from the ravages of the drought. There has been very little wllting of trees and spraying oper. ations carried on daily are preserv» ing steady growth. -T John Partingwn of Bolton_ Eng., who washed his car and thus unlaw- fully used water during D.
