Allies and Germans have been deliver-
ing attacks and counter-attacks and
fierce 'fighting has been continuous
for a- week or more, no decision has
been reached in either of the battles
in”-'West Flanders, ,Northern France
or lu the East in Prussia, Poland ori.'i
Galicia. This is evident from reports
from the various headquarters which
to-day contented themsclvcs with re-
counting the fact that violent attacks
had been made.
The French claim that the Allies re-
pulsed tlie Germans at various places.
According to the French, thc Germans
made attacks against the Allicd line
at Nleuport, Dixinund and Iiabassee.
The Germans are believed to be fight-
ing agalnst disadvantages, especially'
along the coast as the British ships
have been assisting the Allies. The
force have long range guns capable of
making things uncomfortable for am-
munition traina and aiipply convoys
und in the immediate rcar of the
troops also, for men in trcnches and
for thc German gunncrs.
No official information is available
as to thc ships used for this purpose.
It is probable thcy- are threo monitors
which were being completed in Eng-
hind for the Brazilian Government
