(adapted from LPBO's 1994 Annual Report) 1995-6 CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNTS SUMMARY by Dan MCASkill & Ruth Richman This year's counts brought a number of surprises including the first Northern Cardinals and a Red-bellied Woodpecker recorded on our CBCs, large numbers of Bohemian Waxwing, good numbers of Cedar Waxwing, 2 Lesser Black—backed Gulls, a Rose- breasted Grosbeak, and very large numbers of grackles, goldfinch, and siskins. other unusual numbers or sightings included a Great Blue Heron, 3 Northern Harriers, an Osprey, and 25 eagles. The Montague count recorded the most species with 60 on the count day and 2 in the count period. The counters who participated in the P.E.I. National Park count were hosted to a pot-luck at the new Dalvay interpretive centre by Maurice Roy of Parks Canada while Hillsborough counters travelled to Donagh for a pot-luck and count wrap-up session at Dan McAskill's.
