OTTAWA, June 28.-Satisfactory progress was muile at to-day‘s confer- ence between Sir Thomas White, Mi- nister of Finance. and the committee o the Canadian Ballkers’ Association regarding an extension of the credit to tha _Imperial Government to faclltate tile Durchase of war supplies in Cana- da. No announcement is being made as to the extant of the new credit but the impression here is that it will be ample for all requirements of tho lill- porial Munitions Board between new and the autumn. As a result _of the previous confor- elxce a credit of $76,000,000 was es- tablished wit the result that $100,000, 000 additional orders were obtained. These orders cover shells. explosives .and other warmaterial for use at the front hy'Great Britain and the Allies. At present the imperial Munltions ,Board is iiisbursing in Canada from a million to a million and a half dol- lars per day, which is keeping busy over three hundred manufacturing es- tablishments and furnishing employ- ment to many thousands of men. Tile effect of tllis vast expenditure upon the general business of Canada has been very great. In addition to discussing the ques- ,tion of imperial credits the Minister brought to the attention of the asso- ciation the desi-ability of Canada being financially prepared for a great- ly increased export business with Russia and the other Allies after the war and it is understood tbatjatten- tion will be given to the question of establishing; if thought'-necessary, a financial agency ur agencies for the purpose of advertising upon and' deal- ing with Russian and other foreign credits. .-_-_-_- .7.7;-_-_-_-_-,-_-,-_-_-_-_~_-_-,-_ ,oc _-,-_-,~ _-_-_ -_~_-_-_-- ~ - .~.-:_-_-_-_~_ -.-.-:_- _- _-_~_-_-_»_~_-_-_-_~f »-.1-_-_-.-_-_-_~_~. ~ .-».~ l ` ' lrniuiv I-‘or Sullniaril_l¢ _ Attack I Steamer Which may ._ '~ -a -I 1 I -_'rits patted. ststoi government in momoroiiduni sent to Vienna describ- es an attack on the American tank steamer Petroiits by an Austrian sub- mirine as a deliberate insult to_tlie fl.|g c\‘ tilie U.
