Black, organizer and Inspector of Cadets from Halfax who came on the 6 p. m.. train from Charlottetown and promptly at 7 o'- clock arrived at the school grounds, where the .boys were lined up to re- ceive him. There was quite a large gathering of friends and relatives of the boys to greet the inspector, and although the weather looked threaten- ing for a time, the inspection was car- ried through amid the pleasant sur- roundings of Souris High School. The corps, consisting of about 35 boys, were lined up in charge of their in- structor, Lieut. D. F. Tierney, and on the arrival of the inspector the general salute was given, and after- wards the boys marched past. The corps was given. as customary with this inspector, an exhaustive and tho- rough inspection ln squad and com- pany drill, sliirinishing and physical training exercises. At the close of the inspection, which occupied about an hour and a. half. the boys were treat-_ ed to a short and instructive address from the inspector. Amongst other things he said, none were more ap- preciated than tlie high compliment paid by the inspector to the instruc- tor and the boys, on the eillclent manner in which they had carried out their work. The inspector also made a very instructive speech as to the objects and advantages of making this great movement compulsory in all the schools, so as to educate the future manhood of the nation in a man ner which alone fitted them to take up the civil and national responsibili- ties which this great Emplre of ours now demands. The inspector pointed out how the cadets have already ilg battlefields oi' Flanders and Belgium. He claimed the record in this respect demanded from those in auhority to see to it that in our great nation- al emergency, no opportunity should he lost to flttingly provide for the ex- tension of this great work which is now so inentoriously recognized by the military authorities. The inspec- 'tor announced that he would forward o. medal to the_i_nstriictor, to be pre- sented to the best shot in the corps. He also made some fitting remarks about the untimely and sudden death of the late Earl Kitchener and pointed out to the boys the great lesson to be learned from tlie_splendid life and re- cord which his Lordship ,had left bc- hind, aud which would be handed down in the pngos of history as an example to generations yet unborn. Among those present to witness the inspection were His Honor Judge Fraser. Ex-May0I‘ J. W. Brennan, Councillors M. A. Paquet and also the Principal of the School, Mr. Geo. Green. The proceedings were brought to a close with three hearty cheers for the King. The inspector left Saturday morning for Georgetown. and goes thence to Alberton and Tignish, thence proceeding to St. John to complete the inspection of the New Brunswick corps.* EASTER-li PERSONALS -~ --"Clllll-» Chas. ~ Stevenson and family of New York have arrived at Fortune to spend the summer.-F. . _*Miss Hazel Sterns of Charlottetown, accompanied by Miss Minnie McLean, spent the week~end in Souris, visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.
