we may have more confidenue in the abili-
ty of a besieged garrison to avoid surren-
der, even though. as in the cases ci ted,
there should be great and seemingly im-
possible privations to endure.

to cast reflection ona law-abiding com-
munity." .\'or could the Patriot under-
stand why most trees grow with their
branches downward and their roots branch
ing in the air. Trees do not grow that
way, nor does Tni: Gl.'.\nDi.-\1\' wish to
cast reflections upon the law-abiding, It-
is,wc believe but rarely that an assault oc-
curs in Georgetown, but when such a
thing docs happen it is quite as proper to
mention it as to mention a like oc-
currence in any other part. of the Is-
land. As to the question of fact the
editor of the Patriot knows no more,
and probably not so much as THE GUAR-
DIAN.
