Morris W. Croll, Ph_D.. ot the Department ot English Princeton Universities, has contrlbut-' ed an interesting and highly instruc- tive chapter on this subject in The New Untversities Dictionary being of- fered to the readers of this paper. Professor Croll explains- how the number ot punctuation marks in com- mon use has gradually increased with the development of the art of printing. Through the use ot these signs the meaning of printed or written dis- course is rendered clearer to the eye of the reader. I-low and when to use each ot_the twelve marks now em~ pioyed is fully explained by Professor Croll, and the rules he lays down can be easily learned. The remarkable success which has attended this dictionary oder- shows that the people of this city appreciate the opportunity given them to secure at a nominal cost such a valuable educational work. =~vE ci»u|.|:~nEN - semen Ar scRAN1'oN.
