THE regular train from the west yester-
day afternoon was 11 hours late. The de-
lay was caused by one of the trucks
of u. freight car leaving the track. The
accident occured near Bradalbane. _

number of choruses. Mr. J. E. B.McCready
will deliver his lecture on the war in South
Africa. The meeting will be held in the

was a complete succes s. Notwitlistzind-

spacious school-room was packed to its
utmost capacity. The excellence of Suf-
folk socials is beyond quesiion ard this
one surpassed any yet held. Shortly after
.5 o`c!ock Mr. E. Godfrey was called to
the chair who after making a few re-
marks introduced the lecturer the Rev. J.
YV. Godfrey who handled his subject in*
an able and eficient manner. All whose
privilege it was to listen could not avoid
being impressed with the thought that
such a lecture could not but prove benefi-
cial. A vote of thanks was tendered Mr.
Godfrey for his valuable assistance. After
the lecture asliort program was rendered
and was highly appreciated by all present
as was shown by the applause eacn per#
farmer received. _ The result of the sale of
pies was highly sstisfactorv,owing largely
to the energy and characteristic ability of
Mr. W. Godfrey who acted as auctioneer. .
The biddingin some ca es was very excit-
ing and testified to the interest the young
men took in the welfare of the cause. The
amount of $27 “gas realized. Our thanks
are due to our goal neighbors of adjoining
settlements fortheir large patronage. Af-
ter the serving of hot coffee and partaking
of the pies, the company dispersed by the
singing the National Anthem.
ONE wiio wAs PRESENT.
A FEW days ago reference was made in
our columns to the arrival in the city of
Mr. James Turner and Mrs. Turner from
Oklahoma. In conversation with the
GUARDIAN Mr. Turner expressed himself
as being highly pleased with his trip.
They arrived in Oklahoma during the
first week in January and found that the
iveather was similar to June in Prince
Edward Island. The people of Oklahoma
experience very little winter weather. A
little snow falls during February and
March, but the snow only remains a few,
hours quickly disappearing before the
warmth of the sun. The warmest weather
is in the harvest season or the montho!
August. Oklahoma is some %£\) miles
feom Boston and is on the Southern
Pacific lying between the State of Kansas
the “Strip” which has all been settled
Many of those, however, who went tl;e:e_
at the time of the emigration fever havef
sold their claims and to~da.y it is"
almost an impossibility to secure
a farm. At the time of settlement the
land was laid off in to sections and sub-
divided into quarter sections. The land is `
very fertile and can be cropped for six
seasons without plowing, the corn being
cultivated into the soil. Mr. Turner says
that in many of the fields of corn. visited
the corn was very high. The roads have
been laid off s stematically and are `60f _
feet wide. most all kinds of frui; are

excellent place tolive.
