The family were around the tea-table at the time and the electric discharge ran down one corner of the room close to where they were sitting, scattering pieces of plaster over them. The damage to the building is said to be at least $5°0; strange to to say it was well protected with lightning rods. Those whose houses are still unprotected in that way had better ‘make a note of this before investing wher the lightning rod man eomes round again.— Pioneer. Tux question of providing water works in Charlottetown is discussed with as much bitterness anc. party feeling as the Confed- eration issue aroused, and disputants, as usual on the Island, go all Jengths in sup- pert of their contention. One man is warning the people that the water in St. John and Halifax is not fit te drink at all, but is wretched stuff in comgarison with the surface drainage of Charlottetown back yards.
