      brass
      band
      began
     
     
      playing
      Christmas
      carols.
      Early,
     
     
      Christmas
      morning,
      the

      soldiers
      came
      out

      their
      trenches,
     
     
      approaching

      allied

      calling
      “Merry
      Christmas”.

      first
     
     
      the
      allied
      soldiers
      thought
      it
      was

      trick,
      but
      they
      soon
      climbed
      out

      the
      trenches
      and
      shuck
      hands

      the
      German
      soldiers.
      The
      truce
     
     
      last
      a
      few
      days,
      and
      the
      men
     
     
      exchanged
      presents
      of
      cigarettes

      plum
      pudding,
      sang
      carols
     
     
      and
      songs.

      even
      played

      game
      of
