READING, PB., Aug. 15--Freedom is believed to be the sight for Mrs, Kate Edwards, the most remarkable woman prisoner in, the United States. Then came a rc- lirieve, which reached the jail whilc a ulluister was administering the last. rites to the condemned woman. Since that time three governors of Pennsyl- vania have declined to sign the death warrant, and now her case is to he brought before the board gf iiardons with the probable result, it is believed, that she will be given hsr freedom. Mrs. Edwards and a negro 'named Gleason were arrested for themurder of the woman'e husband. The negro VI!! a l'l&!'amour of the woman, and the husband declared he would kill her. - In fear of her life Mrs. Edwards killed her husband one night and threw the body into a well. Mrs. Edwards _came to prison vici- ous- to the last degree, a drunkard, unkempt, desperate and intractable., she 'was like a wild beast. Good women and patient ministers worked years to reform her. The success of their efforts have been nothing less than marvellous.
