A considerable proportion of the lambs born in 1914 would
bring fancy prices. 1 here will be no ditliculty in breeding up every
sheep to the highest priced variety because the company possesses

crossing without jnbreeding.
Speaking of Dr Young and Karakul Speep Mr McCi'e:1dy, Pub-
licity. Agent for P. El. says “The Persian Lamb industry bids fair
to have a development here and throughout Canada second only to
the Silver Fox” _ _ ‘ f
Robert Wallace of Edinburgh University, foremost live stock
expert in the Empire says “Dr. Young is in probably a better posi-
tion than anyone else to get hold of the the very few really good
sheep in Bokhara. If we could get the best of these out,eliminating
all that show signs of soft wool, we can breed a far better sheep
than anything _we can get out now” Dr Wallace lectured recently
on the subject in London beforethe International Institute oi Tropi-
cal Aizriculture. United States Department of Agriculture says:
“'l`wo irriportations (of Kurakuls) were made in 1908-1913 res-
pectivelv. These sheep were brought over by Dr. C. C. Young of
Bi-len, Teltasiuow of Charlotttetoivn, _P_. E. I.) liuy only pure bred
rains that have demonstrated their ability to sire skins of value.’
The Skins
of Karzikul lambs are used in Canada to a great extent. Canadians
spend more lor them than for Silver and all other colors and
species of foxes, Mink Otter, Skunk and Fisher. The Persian
Lamb fur is durable, becoming and economical. It is used by
both men and women for coats, robes, inuffs, stoles, collars, cuffs,
trimming. caps, mits, & cloaks Its use could be enormously exten-
ded. but already there is a wholesale demand in Canada for several
million dollars worth yearly. There was no domestic productions
uiitil this year.
