pany, walking by the store heard a
noise and entered. He turned on
lights and saw three men beside the
safe.
One of them threw a coal rake at
him which struck him in the side and
felled him. The three then ran away.
As soon as he recovered his wind
Donohue called in the police.
They discovered that a locked steel
hox outside the combination wheel
had been uried open and boring aUouf.
the rim of the wheel had begun.
No tools 'or other means of identifi-
cation were left behind.

PHILADELPHIA, April 23-Fifteen
thousand dollars has been for several
days running loose in Montgomery
county. Several people have had it
in their hands and have literally
kicked it away from them. thereby
losing a. reward in real money offered
for the return of the original loss.
The $15,000 is in the shape of dog
flesh, valued approximately at $1,000
a pound, and is carried about on a
French poodle which belongs on the
estate of the late James Siimott,
who was a wealthy whiskey rectifier.

ion occurred following by the break-
ing and crashing of glass which
showered the street.
Dishes in the Dwyer house were
shaken from their positions and light
articles knocked down. Persons in
Haymarket square and other places
as equally far away heard the re-
port and quickly the story spread‘
about the North End section that
another bomb outrage had taken
place.
A young man told Officer Ferrari
that he had seen a stranger about the
building, but he mysteriously disap-
peared. A general alarm has been
sent out for the apprehension of this
Person. of whom the police have a
good description.
Later Patrolman Ferrari and Mc-
Donald brought into the station
house a man who had also been seen
about the premises. He is held pend-
ing investigation.
The house in front of which the
bomb exploded is two stories and a
half high. It is to be torn down
soon. the police say, to make room
for a more modern structure.

Edison Furness, Vernon, came to
the city yesterday and leaves this
morning on the C. G. S. Minto for
Picton en route to Brandon, Man.,
where he will locate. Mr. Furness
has, for the past three years been
employed in Geo. Forbes general
store at Vernon and in this capacity
had widened his already large circle
of friends and by his courtesy to
customers and strict devotion to his
duty gained the entire confidence of
employers and those with whom he
came in contact. The evening DW'
vious to his departure a large num-
ber of his gentleman friends of that
locality surprised him at the home
of his father, Thomas Furness, and,
after reading an address expressive
of their regard for him and regret
at his departure, presented him with
a substantial purse. The address and
presentation was made by John Mc-
Gillvrny, Vernon. This was followed
by a number of speeches delivered by
Mr. McGillvray, William and Daniel
Mcllonald, Milton Furness, John Red-
mond and others, all of whom were
deeply sorry that such a popular
young man had decided to removd to
the West. Mr. Furness made a feeling
l of thanks and appreciation He
es of his numerous friends for suc-
cess in the fur west.
