PERSONAL OPINION: THE RAIN CAME TUMBLING DOWN: OR DID IT? Bagladesh, the world’s most densely popu- lated country (107 million), receives yet another disas- ter. This flood being the worst in 40 years. The mon- soon season came bringing the rains for the rice pad- dies. The rain kept coming but the rice paddies already had sufficient water. India, also having sufficient water for her rice paddies, opened her great dam on the Ganges River...the Ganges, empty- ing in to Bangladesh, has left nearly the whole country un- der water. » It’s true, the rain has come tumbling down in ex- cessiveness during this mon- soon. However, Bangladesh would never be flooded as she is if it wasn’t for India’s dam Development project. During the dry period In- _dia is able to shut off her dam, thus having water for her crops. (However. this leaves Bangladesh high and dry—having no water for her crops. When the rain hits---India is able to control the level of water. Don't think to the country down steam...flood them out! Did the rain come tum- bling down? Yes, it did. Is that the only reason 1.000 people have been killed and 2 million homes dainaged? Ac- cording to the media, yes, it is.
