Which is now going on in the Capital of Cape Breton -Islanders. The writer left Ch`town June 27th for a trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. and after a pleasant rail of 11 hours , arrived at Picton, leaving Pictou at 2.30 arriving at Stellarton in time to board the fast ex- press bound for Sydney. The most enjoy- able part of the trip was crossing the river from Port Mulgrave to Point Tupper taking in tow a scow with 5 loaded cars, boarding the train once more arrived a Sydney at 10.30 p. ni. Itcertainly would be a novelty to tramp the streets all night in search of accommo- dation. This is true in a good many cases but the writer was more fortunate and secured a berth in a vessel lying at the pier. _Sydney is in ahustle and bustle and building operations are going on in all parts of the city and unless you have nuggets ofgold, land owners are not ap- proachable. The people think the boom has come to stay hence the enormous price asked for building lots. Prowse and Crowell are erecting a fine brick building in a central part of the city and no doubt the venture will be a s uc cess. The steel works are immense and the company are now erecting alarge num ber of dwelling honsesabont hal: a mile from the City having recently named the place Ashby. You meet Islanders everywhere in the Town, men of money as well as labouring men, truckmametc. Hotel men are reaping a bountiful har- vest . being extravagant. North Sydney is alsoa- smart business town, so is Glace Bay and everypflaaefvis- ited presents a favorable impression that Cape Breton is all right. ,_ i 1_1 i_ _A_ The -hearty looking men -.who etlnmips his chest-and nays he’ss Q I I A pretty wedding was celebrated at the ' residence of Mr. J.C.
