Notwithstanding the very disagreeable weather nearly five hunired men assembled in the Opera House at 4 o'clock in the afternoon to hear Father Conran speak on “Purity”. He first spoke on tle sinfulness of iropurity and then what can be done for its preven- tion. Rev. Hogg adyertises that she will have children for adoption on arrival from Liverpool im the spring, and that persons desiring to sdopt them must have aclergyman’s certificate of rr commendation sccompany applicatior in orderto have it cousidered. Now sir I would like to ask if a clergyma \’s certifi cate also uccompanies the child for adop'- ion, and ifso whether it contains the pedigree of the parenis of said child? If not I consider that persons adopting them without any eafeguard of this kind are taking great chancesof adopting trouble into their homes. It is a well known fact that many of these children are not born of the best parentage, and if so what can be expected of the oftepring. It is well known that on this Téleug, ag well as elee- where, many of these children have not turned out eatisfactorily and people who think of taking them into their homes should consider what they are doing.
