Apples the will command a good price in the market the amount which last year went to waste, there would be fortunes made. _Peachesin the late varieties, are about half a crop, but rotting badly. Pears are the largest crop of all, and owing to the scarcity of apples are paying well; plums also have yielded well. Grapes, which U0 bein# more extensively culti- viated in this section than here- tofore, are a fair crop in`al1. varieties TM 8¢Ileral opinion is that the oold» dark weather and continued heavy rains pf the spring, when the trees were in , bloom, washed away the pollen from the’ _blossoms and prevented the bees from performing their task of carrying about the fertilizlng. dust. A great deal' of fruit which did set dropped off, owing tof imperfect pollenization and the! pro- ` longed drought which followed the wet apsing, but this only allows that "remiiin-__ ing to he better in quality. -Immelise quantities of tomatoes are raised in' this section, almost every farmer raising from 400 to 1500 bushels. iExperts_‘say_ that Niagara tomatoes, _like Niagara peaches, are the best flavored in the lworld, and are winning' their s way to favorall over the Dominion. `Even» in the log cabin the settler Vis" particular to secure Niagara grown‘tomatoes,. so that ifthe one crop fails and others prove dis- appointing, the farmer in the “Garden of Canada” is not-`_il.k81Y to be mined. Apparently P. E. Island is not the place where drought exists. The Fred- ericton Gleaner says that agsntleman who has just returned from Kent county*-after- spending several days there,'rep0rte 'that the prevailing drought is working much inconvenience and entailing great losses to the farmers of the country. There have been no rains this summer and only a very light rainfall last winter. Pasture lands are dried up like sand banks, no crop could grow and all vegetation is practically ruined. Kent is one of the leading counties of the province in the _dairying industry and the St. Louis creamery is reputed abroad as well as at home for its uniform excellence. The drought having destroyed pastures and the hay crop there is but little milk, and the dairying industry is a failure. A more. serious aspect of the questionlle that the farmers a.re being compelled? kill or sell their cattle the majority of w ich are fine dairying cows. Their owners have h ee nofeed for the cows and no means wit _ which to purchase hay. They will f l the loss toagreater extent next year than ve F 191. 2 Push , Fistioii- l ' _The ,_ _ Browns. -‘ 'f Grcys. _ ` Favvris, _Ox Blpods and Blacks and ~- 'A _ __ ‘ f ._ ._ _gow the Pd°_é7i,5paa:r.
