The Grand Master made a most exhaustive address in which he congratulated the order on the pro- gress made during the year. Three new lodges have been installed, viz: ‘‘Phonix,’ at Truro, N. 8., “‘Diamond,” at Yarmouth,N. S., and ‘* Queen,” at North Sydney, C. B. The Crimes’ Bill. Lonbon, June 17. Several amendments to the Crimes’ Bill were offered and defeated in the Commons this evening. When 10 o'clock arrived the Ministerialist benches rapidly tilled —the members pouring in from the Job- bies. The Parnellites simultaneously arose and left the House, the chair- man twice calling upon them to return. Amid great confusion a division was order- ed, and clause six was adopted 332 to 163. The Gladstonians, who went out, returned aiter the voting, but a division having been | declared unmediately, arose in a body aud withdrew amid Conservative cheers and laughter. The Umiwnists voted solidly with the Government. The remaining clauses were then put and carried without comment. The bill passed the committee stage, the Conservatives again cheering. The report stage of the bill is fixed for the 27th inst. —— a — —_ Steamer Burned. Derrorr, Mich., June 18. The steamer Champlain, having on boar 30 to 40 persons, cuiunalan of Sando and crew, was burned this morning at one o'clock six miles out from Charlevoix. So rapidly did the flames spread that the steamer had to be abandoned in ten minu- tes, and before the boats could be lowered. [wenty lives are known to have been lost. — Warlike Movement.
