And, in a way, these Canadians’ also are — ee eer since the government lifted restrictions on travel funds in 1950, there has been a grow- ing deficit in Canada’s travel ac- count. More tourist dollars flow out than flow in. ‘From a surplus of $49,000,000 in 1950, Canada went to a deficit of $6,000,000 in 1951. This deficit has increased.each year. Last year it climbed to a record $192,000,000. RECESSION NO BAR Canada’s foreizn spending rose even in the midst of recession In 1958, the flow of tourist dol- Jars into Canada dipped to $352,- 000,000 from $363,000,000 in 1957, down $11,000,000. Canadian spend- _ing in other lands increased to $544.000.000 from $525,000,000, up $19,090.000. Details of where these dollars} ; went are being prepared by the bureau of statistics. Preliminary information indicates: little change in the pattern. The big flow of tourist trade is between Canada and the U.S. But a lot of Canadians are making European trips and officials say this trend ig increasing. Tourist trade :3 but one factor in Canada’s deficit in trade in goods and services. The over-all _ WESTERN = GUARDIAN BEDEQUE RINK — Listen to C.J. R.
