At the meeting of the P. E. Island
Presbyterial held in Summerside on
the 22nd and 23rd inst., the attend.
ance, owing to the inclement weather,
although fairly large, was not as- rg.
preseiitative as had been wished.
There were only 84 delegates present,
about one halt of the number for
which the entertainment committee
had made provision. Yet the meet.
ings were very successful and help,
ful. The delegates had the pleasure
of having with thenrthe general pres-
ident,of the W. M. S. of the Maritime
Provinces, Mrs. (Rev.) A. W. Thomp-
son, of Picton, whose practical advice
cleared away many perplexities and
was a source of inspiration to all. Miss
Harrison acted as organist. The
President. Mrs. Rogers. resigned from
the office which she has held for the
past eight years but at the earnest re-
quest of Presbyterial she was induced
to reconsider the matter and was un-
animously re-elected. The H. M. Sec.
retary, Mrs. R. MacNeill, also handed
in her resignation. The list of oili-
cers for the next year stands as fol-
lows: Pres., Mrs. B. Rogers, Albert-
on ; Vice-Presidents, Mrs. Horton.
Gladstone; Miss Z. Muirhead, Sum-
merside; Mrs. Andrew Johnston, Long
River; Mrs. D. Wright, Montague;
Mrs. Kenneth Martin, Charlottetown;
Treasurer, Mrs. I. S. Cairns. Char-
lottetown; Secretary, Mrs. Neil Mac-

TTl1e Secretary’s report showed a
total of 45 auxiliaries with a member-
ship of 1050. The educational feat-
ure oi' missions is being developed and
a large number ot' societies are using
the prescribed study books. The
treasurer reported $2857.76 collected
for foreign missions (an increase of
$38), and $747.40 for home missions
(a decrease of $1.77). The Homo'
Mission Secretary made an earnest
appeal for larger giving to the latter
cause. 'After the first session two
wcll written and well read papers
were given, one by Mrs. Horton, on
the topic “Five Reasons _why I am
interested in Missions," and one by
Mrs. W. S. Bearisto, of Summcrside,
on "The Commercial Value of Mis-
sions."
At the morning session the devot-
ional service lcd by Mrs. Horton had
special reference to the women in the
homes who had given up their dear
ones for the cause of thc Empire. The
Secretary of Young I’eoplc's Work re-
ported 16 active Mission Bands rais-
ing $451.88. The matter of the over-
ture coming from Picton Presbytorial
and sent down by Synod for consider-
ation iliat the funds of the W. M. S.
Auxlliaries bs included in the congre-
gational budget, came under discus-
sion. and this Presbyterlal unanimous-
ly expressed the wish that the pres-
ent status be maintained. Rev. Mr.
Fraser and Mrs. Thompson placed bo-
foro the delegates some details as to
the great needs of the ‘Northwest
where religious work for lack of funds
has had to be cut down 25 per cent.
It was decided that an annual salary
of $50 be paid the treasurer divided in
proportion between Home and For-
eign funds. After the customary 3
per cent. for expenses had been de-
ducted the H. M. funds were alloca-
ted as follows: $300 to foreign work
in Sydney under the care oi' Sydney
Presbytery, $75 of this amount to be
devoted especially to Scotchtown
School; $100 to Bursary fund; $200
to Minto, N. B., $28 to be added to $72
in Mrs. Blackwood’s hands since last
year for the support of deaconess un-
der the Social Service Board; and the
remaining $35 to the building fund oi
the Maritime Home for delinquent
girls.
A pleasing feature of the closing
session was the reception of greetings
from sister organizations, Mrs. Chas.
Strong represented the W. C. T. U.,
Mrs. J. S. Hinton. the W. M. S. of thc
Methodist Ciiurcli, Mrs. Maynard
-Schurman the Central St. Christian
Church. and Mrs. J. MacNeill, the
llaptist Church. These beautiful ad-
_dresses were responded to by Mrs.
,A. E. Morrison, of Charlottetown.
The resolutions, besides the usual
acknowledgement of courtesies, in-
cluded one of a patriotic nature (after
which the conventicii sang the Nat-
ional Anthem) and one commending
to all societies the advisability of or-
Ranizing more Mission Bands and
Young Ladies Branches.
It was decided when Presbyterial
meets in a country place only one del-
egate shall be appointed from each
auxiliary and when it meets in the
Ilirilor towns and villages two shall
bo allowed.
The public meeting on Tuesday ev-
ening was well attended and the aud-
