Although the turnout was higher then at the first event, a crowd of 75 stu- dents, several simply having lunch, was slightly less than expected. “I didn’t know the meet- ing was going on,” said one student, “but I might as well stay.” Although quorum was not met, Vice President Inter- 1 December 1998 nal Pauline Tran was still sat- isfied by the crowd’s response. “At least those who were there payed attention.” , she replied. “Tt is the second meet- ing,” said Speaker Michael Lisetto. “Posters were put up on bulletin boards and it was advertised on the [Student Unionelectronic] noticeboard. We can’t force students to come.” Committed to enhanc- ingcommunication, Gray stated that he wants students to know what projects council was pres- ently working on. “I want everybody to realise what we’ re hereto do,” said Gray. They were then invited to put forwards ideas regarding the selection crite- ria for the on going search for anew president. Co-chaired _ by Debbie MacLellan & Robert Gray, members of the com- mittee include: Dr. Paul Boudreau, Psychology; Dr. Regis Duffy, Chair of the Board of Governors (BoG); Matt Gray, Student Union President; Stephen Lewis, ~ small, Student Union Vice Presi- dent Finance; Margaret MacFarlane, Community member of the BoG; Dr. Tim Ogilvie, Acting Dean of eon Medicine; and Dr. Vianne Timmons, Dean of Education. When asked what key issues UPEI may have face in the next five years, many of those present spoke of the university’s image. “T am not so sure where the heart of the university is anymore,” said Marion Morrison of Student Services. “ UPEI is said to be personal, and intimate, but] am alittle concemed that itmay not be as welcoming as we might think itis.” Morrison added that UPEI may be too oriented towards the business aspect of running a university. In- stead, she continued, we should concentrate on the spirit and the heart of this campus. Regis Duffy sug- gested that a Student Centre is a big priority that would bring the campus together. “A new Student ROIBIElee Centre would add to the quality of education on campus,” said Duffy. “There is no location where students can get together.
