Sunday School Convention ...° The North-Eastern Kings Sunday School Convention met in St. John's United Church, Mar-e, on Tuesday Nov. l with Mr. Rus- sell Garrett in the chair. (‘he opening devotional service was conducted by members of the For- tune Bridge Sunday School follow- ing which the president introduc- ed Miss Adn Adams of St. John. N.B. who briefly outlined the day's program which had as its theme "Build Today for a Christina World." The minutes of the previo is year's convention were read and adopted. The chairman reported on behalf of the executive and the treasurer presented the financial statement. A nomination committee con- sisting of Mrs. Russell Webster. Mrs. Lewis I-ligginbotham and Mrs. K.E. MacCallum W85 Bi)‘ pointed from the chair as was also a resolution committee composed of Rev. W.B.F. Corkum. PYPSWH McEwen and Mrs. George Camp- bell. At roll call reports were receive-cl from nine of the twelve schools in the district and a discussion on these was led by Miss Adams who also passed around self-evalufilfflli charts which made \‘cl‘y searching inquiries into a teacher's efficiency‘ and led to considerable debate (in the teacher's preparation and pres- entations. Schools were asked to try separate worship services for beginners and primary depart- ments. The supper hour in the hall was a time of goodly fellowship with informal discussions in small groups. The worship service ln the eve- hing was led by Mr. Kenneth MacGregor after which Miss Ad- ams discussed with the delegates “Home and Church School Work- ing Together." It. also urged the teachers to improve their scores on their self-rating charts, and finally urged that our resolutions be not mere wishful thinking. The closing item on the even- ing's program was a demonstration o1 typical film strips available. Miss Adams also showed throfléh film slides how the small church may meet the need of individual worship centres for the different departments of the church school. LANDBY The death of Mrs. W. F. Landry occurred at her home on 38 Faulk- land Street, Pictou, on Saturday morning, November 5. She was in her 60th year. A native of Mor- rell, P. E, I., she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Isabel (Campbell) GallanL Besides her husband, Mrs. Lan- dry is survived by two sons, J. Wilfred, of the N. S. Hospital staff. Dartmouth, and Maurice, at home, and by three daughters, Sister Mary Renaldo, C.S.M., Bethany. Antigonish; Margaret, R.N., of the Sutherland Memorial Hospital staff, and Mrs. A. R. (Mary) Tate of Pictou, also by two grandchildren. Gwendolyn and Sandy Tate. Also surviving in the immediate family are three sisters: Sister Mary of St. Maurice, Manila, P.I.: Sister ma, and Mrs. lVfatthc-xv Connell. Pictou, and t\vo brothers. Alphonse, in Ontario, and Alban, Pictou Landing. The funeral was held from her late residence to Stella Maris Church on Tuesday morning. Re- quiem High Mass was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Monsignor R. C. The annual meeting of Park- dale Women's Institute was held in the Women's Institute Hall on Nov. 7. The president, Mrs. War- ren Burns presided; thirty three members responded to roll cell by telling their mystery pal and paying dues. Eleven new members joined the Institute and were welcomed by the president. It was unanimously agreed that the hall be available on Monday's after school for the teaching of catechism. A donation of $50 was given to the local fire-men to assist them in their work. Mrs. Gallant and Mrs. Moore reported for the school committee, stating that a new cupboard for the teachers room was needed. Mrs. Moore spoke of the need of a school for delinquent children, the urgency of which was stressed by Mr. Rice. Re- ports were given by the leaders of the Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Girl Guides. All these reports were very interesting and encour- aging.
