THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER . ,________ ficfore the great provincial Conservative con- vention which rc-clected Hon. IJr. \\' . j. P. Mac- Milltin to the party leadership by a standing unanimous vote, the local Liberal organ did its best to spread disscnsion by innuciidos and rumor-mongering. The convention, which was the largest, the inost eitthusiaistic and the most harmonious ever held in Prince Edward Island. completely upset our contcniporarys prognosti- cations and made it the lziuglting-stock of its readers. _ _ Now the same thing has happened in connec- tion with the National Conservative Convention at Ottawa, and our contemporary cannot conceal its chagrin. It seeks clumsily to sotwstrife and disharmony among those who participated. It even professes to see something sinister in the fact that the Island delegation, according to an Ottawa Liberal paper, was led by the Lon- servative leader of this province who was also a member of the Resolutions Committee, and that the delegates were understood to be "one hun- dred per cent behind Manion." _ _ ' evident that our contcniiora is being t is l T)’ _ hag-ridden by the green-eyed monster of jeal- Ousy. _ And this understandable. As the Liberal party lplit widens, here and at Ottawa, we may expect further such splcnctic outbursts from the Liberal organ. It must be galling for it to turn from the Conservative scene to such spectacles as were presented at the last legislative session, or the still more recent parliamentary session at Ottawa. There, even in the Senate Chamber, our Liberal representatives fought like blazes; Sinclair against Hughes and hfcArtlinr over the Farmers Creditors Arrangement Act; Duff de- nouncing Transport Minister Howe for having gallgd him “a damned big windbag" in sight of all the policemen on duty in the Parliament cor- ridors. In the Lower l-Iotise, we had the spec- tacle of two Halifax Liberal members denotin- cing each other and a former Liberal cabinet minister telling the Government it had betrayed its trust and was unworthy of the confidence of the people. _ _ In the local House it will be recalled that one loo-outspoltcn Liberal iticinber was taunted by a colleague with being disgruntled at the result of l Liberal nominating convention. He and an- other were charged with making “deliberate misstatements of fact." A third Lilierabstalwart was told that he had no right to open his mouth because his (listrict wasn't paying its shaft’. 0f ‘the taxes. A fourth was rebuked for havml!
