Cencert at Emyvale. The concert held at the Emyvale Hall, on Munday night, Feb. 26b, was very successjul. The singing of the Misses Monaghan was good and enthusia-tically encored, to which they suitably responded. Jas. H Movaghan’s solo, accompanied by the orgao, was excellent, his powerrul voice having full scope. A_ par- ticularly bright and pleasing presentation of music was rendered by the violisiste, Messrs Dogberty and Monaghan. The soloof A. McDonald was heartily encored and responded to. The singing of the school children was all _ tbat could be desired, it made one incline to wish that their voices would always re- ‘| main as they are now, so sweet and clear, awish which however we are sure they would not share. The stump speech by W. W. Tupper (Bones) was greeted with round after round of applause by an ap- preciative audience. Judging from the oumber of heads going down the local \its went home with telling effect. The concert was concluded by singing the National Anthem, ia which the whole audience heartly joiued and thus came to a close one of the mest enjoyable enter- tainments of the season. Not the least enjoyable part of the affair was the Junch- eon prepared by the young ladies of the parish, and judgiog by the favorable comment on tue delicacies offered and the sly glances at the watrasses we may ex~ pect tu hear ofa return visit by some of ihe young gentlemen from Kelly’s Cross, Bradalbane or Hunter River. Loxpon, Monday, Feb. 26 ~The cam- paiga is now approaching a most inter- esting phase. In about a fortnight the Congress of the Afrikandear Bond wiil meet, and it is rumored that Mr. Hof meyer will then propose psace terms, ow the basis of the Republics retaining abso - lute independence, but off-ring to disarm. If these terms are rejected it 1 understood that a manifesto will be boldly issued to the Dutch throughout South Africa, calling upon them to throw offtheir allegience to Great Britain, Probably the rumors are exaggerated, but there is no doubt that the greatest anxiety prevails ia Cape Town regarding coming events. What woman doesn’t want a baby—a dimpl- Pa ing, laughing darling, dainty enough to be cradled in a snow- white lily? Every wo- manly woman wants one, but she doesn’t want too dainty a baby. A baby’s cheeks may be too waxen-white and its body too puny, and when that’s the case, baby’s cheeks won’t dimple or its lips laugh, and death is in its eyes. Above all things a woman wants a healthy baby, and she may have one if she will but use the right remedy for weakness and dis- ease of the delicate and important organs that make baby a possibility. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription is the best of all med- scines for prospective or would-be mothers. It makes a woman’s distinetive organism strong, healthy and vigorous. It allays in- fiammation, soothes pain and heals ulcera.- tien. It banishes the discomforts of the waiting time and makes the little new- comer’s entree to the world easy and almost painless. It insures baby’s health. In writing for advice to Dr. R. V. Pierce, for thirty years chief consulting physician te the Invalids’ Hotel and Surgical Institute at Buffalo, N. Y., a mother, wife or maid writes to one of the most eminent and skil!- ful specialists in the world, at the head of a staff of physicians that has treated over 256,000 women, “When I was taking your treatment, I sert in the names of three ladies who were sterile,”’ writes Mrs, M. A. Scott, of Park Rapids, Hubbard Co., Minn. “One had been married seven years and had no children, and after taking Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription she gave birth toa big girl inside of a year. The other one was confined within a year and a half, after going six pe without having any children. do not know how the third one came out, for we moved away.” Torpid liver and constipation are surely and speedily cured by Dr. Pierce’s Pleasant Pellets. They never gripe. They regulate, tone up and invigorate the liver, stomach and bowels. No substitute urged by mer- cenary dealers is as good.
