' DAILY MARKET QUOTATIONS SUMMARY By THE CANADIAN PRESS Toronto—Market lower in mod- erately slow trading. New York—Market lower; de- clines continue. Montreal—Market lower in light trading,’ CURRENCIES MONTREAL (CP) — The U.S. dollar closed Wednesday at a dis- count 05179 per cent in terms of Canadian funds, down 1-16. _ Pound sterling $27672, down %. TORONTO TORONTO (CP) —— The stock market Wednesday recorded its .fourth straight decline amid the slowest trading in nearly two weeks. A brief and feeble rally in the closing minL’Ites lifted a majority of prices up from their loWs but couldn’t get back much of the earlier ground lost. Base metals were down a point on index. Western oils lost nearly oneihalf point. Golds were virt- ually unchanged. Brokers said the decline, which was steeper than Tuesday, but not as sharp as the one last Fri- day, was more of a result of a lack of buying rather than any sustained selling. They said many investors are still waiting before committing themselves. Senior base metals were lower in a line but, most declines were less than a point. Hudson Bay, however, lost a point at 43. Golds, Uraniums and coppers were nar- r0le easier, profit-taking reduc- Ing some of the gains recorded In recent days. Western Oils lost ground but their decline was the slimmest of the three major sections. Cana- dian DeVonian and Central Del Rio lost l15 cents each while most other changes were 10 cents or less. ‘ Index changes: golds up .01 to 7730; base metals off 1.03 to 147-50; western oils off .40 to 19.802. ‘ TORONTO CLOSING STOCKS By The Canadian Press Toronto Stock Exchange—Feb. 12 (Quotations in cents unless marked 3.
