Mr. Peters submitted a bill re- epeciing the Court of Chancery. He ex- plained that the bill authorized the Chief | Justice to sit in chancery on cases in which j the other judges cannot sit. It was read a | first time, read @ second time, committed ‘and reported agreed to. | Mr, Montgomery submitted a bill (from ;amend the process, practices and mode of | pleading in the Supreme Court of Judica- }tien of Prince Edward island. ) Mr. McDonald asked the Commissioner {of Public Works if a petition has been receiued from the inhabitants of Middle |ton, Lot 60, Rona, Caledonia and other adjoining settlements, praying for the opening of anew road from the Maitland Road to the new extension of the Halket Road, and if so, what action does the Gov- ernment intend to take with reference to said petition; also, if a petition had been i ceived from the inhabitants of Fiat River, | Melville and adjoining settlements praying \fer the opening of a new road from the Wood Island Road to the shore of Flat River, or Johnson’s Beach, and if 80, what action do the Government intend to take with reference to the prayer of said peti- tion, and if any amount has been subscrib- ed for the said road by the inhabitants, and if so, what amount ? Hon. Mr. McLean replied that the peti- tions had been received, and the matters referred to would be carefully investigated. lo regard to the last question, he said that about two hundred dollars had been subscribed, Mr. Montgomery moved the following reso ution ; Resolved, That the Government take the necessary steps to obtain from the Industrial «xbibition Associations of Queen’s, King’s and Prince Counties, vouchers for their expendi- ures for the years I89l and 1892, so far as relates to the Government subsidy and eupple- ment added thereto. Mr. Beil seconded the motion, aod animadverted upon alleged discrepancies in statements converning the Prince Vounty Exhibition, and urged that an inquiry be instituted. Mr. Shaw supported the motion, which was carried. House then went into committee on road scales. Agreed to. Mr Beutley called attention to the fact that the cost of the road machine and the expense in connection with it had not yet been made known, though he had asked for it on the 16h day of March. Over a month has elapsed. What can be the reason that the information is not brought down ? The Government are not inclined to do justice in this matteras in many other matters. The withholding of this informa. tion leads to suspicion that all is not right. There must be something dark and under- handed in connection with the matter see ing that the Government are sv loth to give Hon. Mr. McLean stated that the state- ments asked for involved a large amount of research and labor. In the future it is intended that the machines shall be operated in connection with statute labor. It has been found that a great saving has been made by the use of the machine. He hoped to get returns of last year by this evening. Mr. Bentley said that the reply was un- satisfactory. Mr. Arsenault considered it a very queer thing that informstion was not fortbcoming. What is to be gained by hiding the facts— unless there is something to be hidden 7?
