Mr. Jones, of Halifax, inquired when the amended Intercolonial freight tariff would be laid before the House. Sir John Mucdonald said it would be submitted in a few days. Since the new tariff was agreed on there had been a great many applications fur modification and due consideration had been given these. Before the orders of the day were pro- ceeded with Sir John Macdonald made a reference to the death of Mr. Chisholm, M. P. for New Westminster. The House then went into committee on the tariff resolutions. The explanatory clauses were adopted with slight verbsl alterations. The changes in the tariff came next, the first noteworthy discussion being viz: cattle, sheep and hogs, 30 per cent. ad valorem. The debate on this item was undisposed of when the House adjourned at midnight. feeling Laid to Rest. QueEsBEc, April 9. Hon. Sheriff Chauveau was interred in the vaults of the chapel of the Ursuline Convent. No other lay interment will take place there in future save that of Nar- cisse Belleau, who has expressed the desire of being interred by the side of his wife.
