Flax fell the five-cent allowable limit due to poor demand for Canadian grains and outside selling. At the final bell wheat futures were 1 7-8-1 5-8 lower, Oct. 57 1-2, Nov. 57 3-4, Dec. 57 1-4-3-8 and May 61- 61 1-8. Wheat, scoring its sharpest set- back in seven straight days of slumping prices, fell into the 56- cciit range for the first time in more than five years. Selling was largely adverse in- termarket operations with small hedging sales mentioned. A major influence which was said to have caused Chicago to drop more than two cents was unofficial inform- ation that the United Ststes gov- ernment subsidizing wheat ex- port program may undergo vision. Grain sources claim of- ficials are concerned by the small demand for wheat from import- ing countries. Cash wheat demand was slow with top grades trading slightly easier. Coarse grains led by the five- cent drop in December flax aver- aged lower despite export and out- side purchases of barley and rye and mill demand for oats.
