Da.novusig, Sept. 23, One of the most distressing accident which has ever occurred here took plac last evening, in the death, by drowning, of Jos. Barberie, George Edward and Law- rence McHugh. ‘The boys had spent the afternoon on the Bon Ami rocks in front of the Inch Arran Hotel, and when return- ing in the evening, abuut seven, the boat must have upset. Their cries for help were heard by two or three who, for some reason not yet explained, could not go to their assistance. Che boys clung to the boat and all three came tu the shore with her. It was thought they were too much exhausted to come out of the surf and perished. LATER. It has been ascertained that the parties who heard the cries of the unfortunate boys did make every exertion to get to their assistance, but owing tu no boat being within reach it was impossible to do so. Chere was a heavy sea and it was too dark tu see their position and the cries svon ceased, Yellow Fever. JACKSONVILLE, Sept. 23, There were 138 new cases of fever and 10 deaths to-day. Ninety of the new cases were colored people. Merivan, Miss., Sept. 23. The board of health to-day ordered that no persvns be permitted to get off any trains in the city, and after 12 o'clock to-morrow no train be permitted to stop in the city, but to ran through with locked doors at a speed not less than 20 miles an hour. Chere is no yellow fever here. T. Jeffrey, General Manager of the M:ners Central Railway, is in receipt of despatches from many points along the road in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisans, converning the reports ot terror which prevails in consequence of the prevalence of yellow fever. The ‘excite ment is widespread at many points, Th perturbed feeling has resulted in com- pletely stagnating business and preventing trafhic. Mr. Jeffrey said to-day that there are probably one hundred and fifcy places along the Llin»vis Central lines, where the people have taken matters into their own bands and established an em- bargo so complete in a number of instances as to even shut out the mails, medicines and physicians. Toronto, Sept. 23, Two cases of smallpox have been dis- covered in this city, and one can be traced to a woman from Buffalo, where the disease is prevalent. Every precaution has been taken here to prevent the spread of the dis- ease. Rev. J. Hudson Taylor and eighteen missionaries for China addressed an im- mense farewell meeting here to-night. They leave on Tuesday. More than half of them are ladies. Suspende! Barristers. Hauirax, N. 8. Sept. 23. The Council of the Barristers’ Society have suspended King and Barrs from the society for six months for unprofessional conduct. Their judgment is « lengthy document, and finds that the firm had an arrangement with W. K. Ferguson, who is nots solicitor, that he should share in all custs of suits that he gave them to collect.
