TARRIFIG EXPLOSION, —— + <p eet Oa A Whole Family Blown Up and Killed. St. Louis, Nov. 1. A terrific explosion eccurred early this morning in a grocery store here. The gro- cery and twe adjoining brick buildings were totally destroyed, and 12 persons who lived in the houses were buried in the ruins. It is not known how many were killed. The cause of the explosion is a mystery. The Grand Trunk Railway have decided to test the system of heating their passenger cars with steam direct from the locomotives and abolishing the stoves. To Protect British Interests. Monrreat, Nov. 1. Admiral Henlage left for Victoria, B. C., to-day, to take command of the Pacific squadron. In an interview, he said one of his first official acts would be to visit the Alaskan waters and to protect British interests there. He ‘would not allow British vessels to be molested outside the three mile limit, no matter who attempted it- He understands that the recent seizures in Alaskan waters will form part of the fisheries enquiry.
