Here are a couple of worth-while variations oi’ the same icing. _ - Chocolate Cake 2 cups sifted pastry flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ‘fi teaspoon salt ‘.5 cup butter or other shortening 1 cup sugar 2 squares unsweetened chocolate melted 1 egg, well beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla _ % cup milk Sift flour once. measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift together three times. Cream butt/er thoroughly, add sugar gradually arid cream together until light and fluffy. Add chocolate, blend; then ada ogg and vimiiiii. Add hour, alternately with milk, a. small amount at a time. Beat alter each addition until smooth. Bake in greased pan 8 x 8 x 2 inches, in moderate oven (325F) for one hour. Spread with .frosting made by an zo 'adding 1 cup marshmallowsfqucrt- ered. to seven minute frosting. Spread the marshmallow frosting on cake, sprinkle with 1 can of long, shredded coconut while the frosting is still soft. Seven Minute Frostng 2 egg whits, unbeaten 1% cups sugar 5 tablespoons cold water 1% teaspoons light com syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla Put egg whites, sugar, water uid corn syrup in upper part of double boiler. Beat with rotary egg beater until thoroughly mixed. Place over rapidly boiling water, beat constantly with rotary egg beater, and cook seven minutes or until frosting will stand in peaks. Re- move from fire, add vanilla, and beat until thick enough to spread. For marshmallow icing. add one cup quartered marshmallows to the seven-minute icing.
