That was not the ease, he said, and he quoted figur- cs to prove his contention. In some of the Grecian wars 97 percent of the combatants were killed. At Bannockburn 85 percent of the English troops were killed. In comparison with those figurn Senator Black recalled the battle ' of Vimy Ridge in which 81.000 Can- i adians were engaged and 4,500, killed. The same number were en-f gaged at Passchendaele and 3,5001 were killed. l In the Franco-Prussian war 80 rounds .of artillery were fired forl every man killed while in the Great War 860 shells were fired for every soldier killed. Throughout the war 6'10 people were killed by sir raids over the Bnitish Isles while in the year i032, 33,000 people were killed in the Untied States in automobile accid- en , Senator Buchanan believed Can- uda should stay with tire League of Nations and assist in its efforts to maintain peace.
