Marilyn Bowering, that is, not Marilyn Monroe. Bowering is a poet and fiction writer from Victoria, B.C., who will read from her new book of poems, Autobiography, and her latest fiction at Confederation Centre Library on Thursday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m. Bowering did publish a book of poems about her famous namesake, An Vv : ilyn Poems. Since 1973 she has published over a dozen books of poetry and fiction. Memorable titles include Giving Back Diamonds, To All Appearances a Lady, The Liberation of Newfoundland. and The Killing Room. She was short-listed in 1984 for the Governor General's Award for Poetry, and again in 1997 for Autobiography. Bowering’s writing is lively, gutsy, immediate, and entertaining. Bowering’s performance is part of the “Winter's Tales VI" reading series sponsored by the UPEI English Department, with the generous support of The Canada Council of the Arts and the gracious cooperation of Confederation Centre Library. Students eligible for a Leadership Award must be full-time students who have satisfied the entrance requirements to the University or who have passed at least cight three-semester hour courses in the previous year of study. 2. Awards will be given to students who have made, are making, or have demonstrated the potential for making a significant leadership contribution to University life. 3. Anaward may be givento a student participating in University athletic activities but only if the student demonstrates significant leadership ability through his/her participation. 4. An award may be received once by an individual. 5. Nominations for awards may be made by students, faculty or staff of the University. 6. Recipients for the awards will be chosen by a committee approved by the President of the University.
