U1 ' .WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.- The -old‘*’hlstorlcal home of Mr. and Mrs. 'Jarpes Duck, Pleasant Grove, was the fscehé of a very social gathering on tha evening of Saturday. the 21st Inst.. lthe` occasion being the celebration of theylortieth anniversary of their wed- ding. A large company of relatives and' friends gathered, including their four daughters, their husbands and children. Supper was served by the hostess, and was heartily enjoyed by allipresent. The remainder of the evening was spent most enjoyably. Music, instrumental and vocal, was furnished by the guests. Mr. J. K. Ross, who is a pleasing entertainer at all times, contributed numerous selections from his fine Victrolo. Mrs. Duck, who is tadaughter of the late Noah Harper, f Suffolk, is a Chris- tian lady who possesses many good qualities of both mind and heart. H r home has always an open door for tiie vleltor. and her hospitality knows no bounds. She is one of the pillars of the church at Pleasant Grove, and has always had the best interests of the community at heart. Mr. Duck is one of the progressive farmers who have reached the mark in their chosen pro- fession, and he is a worthy descend- ant of the Island’s pioneers, who fought the battles of prlvatlon and hunger, and made the desert blossom as the rose. He is also a worthy grandson of the late George Duck, who emigrated to this province in the year 1824, as secretary to the late Governor, Col. John Ready. who was the importer ofthe once farnetl thor- oughbred "Roncevalles," the lirst blood horse brought out to the colo- nies, afterwards owned by the late Wallace Duck. father of Mr. .lamcs Duck. He ls one of His Majcsty’s Justice of the Peace and has always taken an active part in the church and community.
