Rata aw Plastics are the great evil of the 90’s yet they make up only 3% of land fills where as paper makes up over 3/ 4 of the total landfill volume and plastics are much better for landfills then paper because of there stabil- ity. I do applaud people for wanting to help the world but a just feel that if they would think before they jump in that they would realize that it is not as great as they thought.I wait for the day when this fad is over. Sick of all this garbage, Cory Large Letters To The Editor Dear Editor, In your September 1 9th issue the Director of Security, A.J. MacLeod, states that many of the problems concerning lack of parking can be solved simply by looking the situation over carefully, planning ahead, and having patience. If I do this will more parking spaces appear out of mid-air? There aren’t enough parking spaces! No matter what you do the total number spaces will still be less than the total number of vehicles. Mr. MacLeod also goes on to say that just because you can’t find a parking spot is no rea- son to double park. If I can’t find a parking spot, how can I double park? The fact of the matter is that we need more parking. Everything that A. J. MacLeod says is arunaround. Signed, Mr. ‘‘ If-I-Can’t-Find-A-Parking-Place-I’ ll-Park- Anywhere-I-Damn-Well-Pease’’ Dear Editor, Iam concerned about the poor lighting on this cam- pus, and would very much like to see it improved. Places such as the back of Memorial Hall, between Duffy and the Chapel, and the areas at the front of Main Building, are just some of the areas where the lights shine so dimly at nights. To make it worse, many of those lights are hidden by the branches of the | trees. UPEI X-P RESS October 3, 1991 Ido not like walking alone at night on campus be- cause I am barely aware of my surroundings in the dark. There are shadows everywhere, which creates a sense of eeriness. I think walking at night on campus is dangerous because I, as well as other females walking alone in the dark, am an easy victim to all sorts of attack such as rapes. There has been no reports of rapes on campus in recent years, according to UPEI Security, but there are plenty of rumours. Some may think that rumours are harmless, but they are not because they provoke uncertainty and fear of what could happen to anyone, whereas reports can at least assure everyone that there are such matters occuring, and wecan all be more prepare for anything with less confusions and more awareness. The risk of safety is not garanteed anywhere, butI do think that the risk can be reduced by having more lights on campus. For now, may be the voltage can be increased to give sufficient brightness on campus. A Voice from the Dark. Those who feel strongly about the poor lighting please write a letter to the Editor expressing your concerns. Then perhaps something will be done about the lighting. Here’s to better safety on campus.
