3 = Le “ss ROSS Patent Artificial Slate, AND Unchangeable Yctallic Paints ; PROOF AGAINST FIRE AND WATER. <~—— MABUFACTURED BY THE PATENTEE, IN COLCHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA. ‘CHE Artirictat Suate is the product of a mixture of mineral substances, ksown to be the best non-conducters of heat as well as the most indestructible ; the chemical a‘finity of which converts the surfaces of materials covered, into a Coating of -iclual Slate—Proof agains: FIRE and WATER. Thus the laws of nature are made to accomplish results as surprising as they are useful, by render- ing wooden fabrics as durable as brick or stone, and jess pervious to moisture, and consequently preventing decay and destruction from corroding influences hi- therto supposed unattainable. The principal ingredients are Alumina, Silica and the Oxides of Iron. The ad- besive quality of the latter not only binds and attracts the particles together, but the substance is coverec also, The longer exposed to the weather the more powerful the attraction, and consequently the hard- er the slate. As various shades of colour are obtained, Black buildings may be made impervious tg moisture, ard the fashionable colours of either Free Stone or Granite. The oil must be evaporated by the action of the weather before it is Fire proof, which will take from nine to twelve months, The Metariic Paints, Purple and med, are offered as Weather and Water proof solely. \iieir base being Iron, se- cures them from Galvanic action so fatal to lead and other Parsts on fron work — and their cheuteal conbdination makes i impossible that any change should take place from atmospheric influence, or the action of sajt water and sulpiurated hy- drogen, so prevalent im sea ports and tidal harvours. ‘Vhey surpass ail Paints yet discovered in Chewpuess and Durability, which render then pre-eannently adapted to the covering of all kinda of Tron work, such as Shipping, Mills, bridges, Steam Blachinery, Kuilway Cars, and tren Rail- ing. The Merauure Painrs have been analysed by Professor Hays of Boston. The following ts an extract from his Cer- tificate:—“* As a permanent pigment, this mineral must rank with the most ides fructible and unch mgeable bases. For co- vering Metalic Ware, its composition shews that it is eminently fitted. (Signed) Aver. A. I have paint- ed our Gasholders with Red Lead Paint} regularly every Spring for the last ne years, and no sooner were they immersed in the water contained in the Tanks than | observed the effects of the Ammonia, marking the depth to which it had been in the water: this continued until Spring again, by which time it had almost be | come white. I painted them this last | spring with.your Metallic Paint, and can- | /not yet observe any difference of colour. | Che part which goes among the water | remains the same colour as that which does not. From its adhesive quality as well as chenpness, | consider it ampere | to any thing | have eyer seen for Tron) Work. 1 have also used the Artificial | Slate Paint. and have no hesitation tn | saving that (if used as directed by your! THIS admirable article has been tested for some years, and proved very valuable, becoming a perfect slate, as hard as mar- ble in a few months, completely protect- ing whateyer is coated with it from the action of weather and fire—a better fire- proof than tin or xine. Several Insurance Companies certify they will imsare build- ings covered with it at a cheaper rate, than if covered with those metals. It is of two colors, the black is best for roof- ing—the chocolate the best thing ever ciscovered for sides of either brick or wood, forming a perfect stone coating of a handsome stone or.chocolate color, can be easily changed by a little white lead to suit the taste. There is nothing equal to it for steamboat and car decks, and all kinds of iron, as it forms a coating near- ly as hard as the iron itself, and never cleaves off, BEWARE OF wok Fees COUNTER- As the popularity of my paint has in- duced scores of unprincipled individuals to grind up, and offer as fire-proof paint, all kinds of worthless stuff, much of it nothing but rotten stone that has no co- hesive attraction, is held on by the orl with which it is applied ; consequemty, as soon as the action of the atmosphere destroys the oil, it will wash or rub off like Chalk or Whiting, nothing can yet be known of its lasting qualities, as it is but little over a year since they got therm up, whereas mine has been tested ubowt seven, and where first applied ts now Jike a stone, The original and genvine article can | be obtained of PATKICK STEPHENS, Orwell, my authorised Agent for the Is- land, Nie.
