The strong rays of the mid day sun softened the rubber ball, thus increasing its elasticity and causing it to rebound with greater sprightliness.. In- deed in seemed to have life as it bounced ners, then striking the walls at an angle, revounding to the floor and falling in such ment of the players to the utmost extent. The game was hotly contested throughout, and at first fortune seemed to favor Messra. Campbell and Arsenault increased their number of points to five, while their opponents added only ove score. Honors were more evenly divided now, andthe chances of success seemed about equal for both contending parties. But in the beginning of the sixth round Messrs. Gauthier aod Blaquiere lost their self-possession, and ‘repeatedly missed the ball, thus permitting their opponments to add three more scores to their number. Shortly afterwards they regained confidence in themselves, and betore the sixth round ended the game stood even at eight to eight. Messrs Campbell and Arsenault had now the ball in posession, and that they would score another point before their “ hands ” were put out was almost a foregone conclusion among the spectators. LIBERAL-CONSERVATIVE MEETING AT SOURIS. In response to the call of John McLean, Esq., Convener, a large and representative meeting of the delegates of the several electoral divisions of the First District of Kings, was held in St. Patrick’s Hall, Souris, forthe purpose of organizing for the coming election. The meeting was called to order by appointinting Mr. James McQnail to the chair and the under- signed secretary. Having briefly addressed the meeting, the chairman called upon Mr. McLean, as Convener, who explained the plan of organization laid down by the conference held at Charlottetown, dwelt at some Jength on the deplorable state of the : finances of the Province and concluded by wittily a!!uding to the “Star Chamber” which happened to be in session at Sourison that day. Short speeches were also made by Messrs. J. G. Sterns, Michael’ McCormack, John Cantweil, Theo. Gallant, Dr. McLellaa, Eusebius Gallant, Andrew Mooney, Geo. Leslie and John McLellan. The subject of selecting candidates to contest the district was dis- cussed, but it was ultimately decided to defer it to some future meeting. Great enthusiasm was manifested throughout, and considering the bad state of the roads and weather, the meeting was very largely attended. ALEXANDER CAMPBELL, Souris, April l0tb, “97. Secretary.
