A Dublin despatch of the 4th states that the eviction on Lord Clanricarde’s estate were resumed on Tuesday. The evictors first attacked the house of a nan named Tully, at Cloncoe. The house faced the River Shannon. A deep trench had been dug about the building, the roof of which Trees had been sunken in the ground parallel with the walls, which were made much stronger thereby. The first attack of the battering ram was beaten off by means of stonee and boiling liquid, which the garri- son used with good effect. The attacking party was compelled frequently to retreat. Then the constables were ordered up on the roof of the house, but many of them were editors, Professor Harrington, Astronomi-| Ti Snake Catching. 7 The best nee ? have found - cap- turing snakes, says a writer in except the large black ones, is the flew ing: When you see cne that you want, en- deavor, by all possible means, to cover hun with your net. On returning home saturate a small sponge with cloroform, which thrust into the can with your snake. You can do this in a small rvom to prevent the snake's escape. In the course of a quarter of an hour the snake may be taken from the can and arranged in a bottle, which is then to be filled with alcohol and tightly corked, and your specimen is ready for the mu- seum, On one of these hurts a lady who was searching for butanical epecimens happened to come along jist as I was putting a snake into one of the tin cans. She inquired what I was going to do with it, and | said: ‘* Preserve it;” whereupon she asked: ‘Do they make good preserves ?” Goethe kept a pet snake which he took from the chimney corner and fondled every night, which shows that he was partial to these ‘‘ noxious " and Dr. McCook says the snake oe most beautiful snimal - creation.
