Caine plays a sophisti- cated, charming, and very rich con-man, while Martin plays the unsophisticated and not-so- wealthy con-man. Caine and y: Missy Brennan Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Playing at the Prince Edward inemas Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the atest film directed by Frank Oz, Steve Martin and Michael Caine yuk it up in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Martin meet on a train while travelling in Europe; both were about their usual business of con- ning somewhat naive, albeit rich, ladies. Martin is travelling to a small town in Zurich, to try to con some wealthy women. It so happens that Caine also has the same thing in mind. They both end up in the same town, and realize that there is only room enough for one. Caine takes Mar- tin in and teaches him everything there is to know about charm and class, only to try to coerce him to leave. Together they are a sensational team, easily preying on the wealthy women with their wonderful rich and nasty lines. They then decide to make a bet to see who will remain. It is de- cided that the first person to ex- tract 50 thousand dollars from a wealthy American soap Queen will be given full rights to the territory. In competing for the rights to con, they engage in some rather humorous “suave and so- phisticated” comedy. The end- ing, of course, we leave for you to see (perhaps the ending will even con you — it’s a rather interesting twist!). Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is one of the better films I’ve seen in a while, but I believe it could have been much funnier if they had al- lowed Martin to play the hilari- ous actor that he is. Don’t get me wrong, there were a number of re- ally funny parts, but Dirty Rot- ten Scoundrels had the potential to be a much bigger comedy suc- cess. kek kK a aa RK RK KK Oe RO tiday Feb 3rd © 5:30 Rocky Horror Picture Show. | 2nd Floor Wet/Dry!!
