It is almost tiirity years since---tliat L E. Proivs¢...in5ti¢ued % e business himself-opening below the old corner commonly i called "‘%tam er’s Corner " From the first he wa o ular with the public---his courteous, afftihle bearing impressing itself upon asll Pcii)stomers--- and it was not long ere the success of his business venture was assured. Every one with whom he came in contact appreciated his willingness to please his pat- rons--~and as time went on and business increased---tlie necessity of some one to share the increased responsibility with l1iii1 manifested itself---and in 1889 Mr. Prowse associated with him in the business his brother, Benjamin C. Prowse. Under the guiding hand of tliese two iueii---each alive to the interests of their business and the satisfaction of the public---the business became larger each year ---additional space being added with the increased demands. As time went by additional room was acquired---and the Clothing and Hat departments given more space. This portion of the store grew more rapidly than even the Hrm's most Sanguine expectations dreamed of-- and in the year 1895 the old building known as Stan1per’s Corner was removed from its site -and the handsome brick structure which at present 'occupies the old stand took its place. This gave still more room and the fine Carpet Department for which the store is famous was then inauguarated in the new quarters. .~'\iid as an illustration of how “Success always meets with Success” the business still more rapidly expnndeil--aiid more room was demanded. Where to get it ? That was the qnestioii-'-a question Hu- aily answered by the acquisition of the stores adjoining the shop on Queen Street in which the original partner opened business. Thus equipped with working space equivalent totheirnfeds--the general arrangement of the store was clianged-- and when completed there were five different stores under the iiianagciiient of the limi. In these stores--coi1duc'ed by a system that is almost perfect -and each under thecharge ofa capable n-ianager--are all the different lines which goto make an up to date and attractive uioderii Ilcpartuicnt store. In the year 1904, Messrs L. li. and Benj. C. Prowse---associated with them in their rapidly increasing business---Wald ron B. Prowse another brother. B. Prowse came to the business from Worcester, Mass, where _he had been living, and brought to the firiu au additional inanaging force winch has added to the successful government of the firm--»aud to i;s popularity as well. Before going further with thc retrospective of one of the most popular busi- ness firnis in the province-»aud listing up the dill`ei'ent departments etc---some- thing should be said-»»and said deservedly regardiiig the one great change which has taken place in the business methods of the firm during the past year. With the commencement of 1911 the firm made a radical change in their methods of conducting their ,business---and dispensed _with all credit accounts---instittiting the ONE PRICE-CASH SYSTEM This was a change which deinaiided thought and consii'lei'ation--~a change which broke away from the old time manner of doingbusincss a ciiaiige which some condemned and the majority approved of. And it was a chaiige which has brought sucii a radical lowering of prices that even those who condemned---see now that it was a change which meant more advancemeiit to the firm-»-.uid much saving to the customer. All any one needs is to read their advertiseiiivnts---and compare their former prices with their present ones. The saving eiiected is therein so gieat---that a glance shows what is gained. The tirm personally see that every customer is treated alike---iio one is given a difierent price--vinci every one is ask- ed to PAY CASH---therefore no one need feel sore it credit is poiit e’v refused. The lo\\' prices forbid it---the ONE PRICE CASH L`\O\VN SVS'l`l'f’/I is' such a mutual benefit---that even while some may wonder at the ciiauge ieiiig made--~ they cannot help but marvel at the vast diiiercuce in prices between now and the days when credit was given to every one. .. _ _ ` - 'Below.is_listed._thQ_diife,ienr. departments, their..inauag;:r.s..<1.'1Cl»Ha siatpnts, and i__t_ is interesting to note that many of the heads of the departmerirs liave been in the employ of thc firni for years, a fact which speaks well for bot h employers and employees _ ' ' '¢~ _ 1-ng - ti f -jan 1 ‘1 A __ __ __ _ ri ' T I .‘ _` / l / ' `\` I . i _ l ° J' i v.‘,_.w \~ ",péqti;ii,iii Piiriiii .
