At a recent meeting of the _ Junior Ladies Aid of Prince Edward Maud Hospital, held -Royalty gives students prizes The Royalty Chapter was or- ganized in April. 1960. Mrs. Wil- liam Matthews is Regent. As a Chapter, there are few members, but all are willing workers. Located as it is. in a Iemi-rural district, there are no great opportunities for organiz- ing projects which will bring in revenue. Because of this, th e scope of its work is somewhat limited. For the past few years tb e Chapter has given prizes to stu- dents who pass with big h e st marks in English and Canadian History in grades eight and nine at Sherwood High School. It has supplied each classroom in this school with a framed picture of Her Majesty the Queen. Every year it supplies these classrooms with an IODE calendar, and this year it gave a prize -to a student who passed highest in Provinc- ial grade eight examinations. The Chapter has adopted a rural school in Prince Edward Island and is initiating a library in this school. It has supplied school books to 1 group of retarded adults who are now formed in a school group and distributes magazin- es about twice a year to hospit- als, jail and homes for the aged. Once a year. members of the chapter in a body visit or~ of the homes for the aged and bring individual treats for the patients. LADIES: We carry Napkins. A great part of this healthy growth has been accomplished through the tire- less efforts of its president. Mrs. B. Earle MacDonald, with the assistance of an active execu- tive. Included on this executive are elected councillors repre- senting each of the seven Prim- ary Chapters and one Junior Chapter which has shown much enthusiasm in the work of the Order. Beattie. pro- vincial president for New Brun- swick. The semi-annual meeting was held in the Legion Ho m e. the second annual meeting will be held again this year in Charlottetown in April. The main purpose at these meetings is to co-ordinate the work being done by the primary chapters in the province and to provide a more positive link be- tween IODE here and the na- tional organization. At an executive meeting in November. Dorothy Cullen. of the P.E.l. Libraries, gave the Farm and Garden SEEDS Wholesale and Retail when you require Seeds call HALIFAX SEED Co. (P.E.l.) Ltd. 2 Queen St. Dial SM-8313 Charlottetown m___ members an outline of books needed in Island schools. A com- mittee from Prince of Wales College and St. Dunstan’s Uni- versity have drawn up a sug- gested list of books, as has also Miss Cullen. A very brief visit was paid to the Chapter from the national president, Mrs. D.M. McGibbon, while she was here attending a meeting of the Dominion Drama Association. Such visits always help to add new enthusiasm and interest among the members. Members of the order attend church services in a body at least once during the year, when the Provincial, Primary and Junior Standards are carried and placed in their proper posi- tions within the church w h i c h has been chosen by the members to attend. A new venture was attempted in the Fall when the “Red Glove Revue." a musical and comedy show, was presented under the professional direction of Brooks Russell of Cangill Productions Ltd.. New York. The performers consisted of all local talent, which helped to create more in- terest in such a show, and al- though this was sponsored by the Provincial body. every IODE member worked to make it the success it was. Each chap- ter benefitted financially from this undertaking and all monies netted were to be used entirely to promote the educational pro- gram of the order.
