Doagald Gillies It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of Dougald Gillies of Elders lie Tp. Though he had been quite un well for some time it was .not though that his end was so near, but on Tues- day evg,, of last week, be was slightly worse than usual and shortly after mid- night his friends, at his special request retired and in the morning upon looking into the room thought he wassleeping peacefu`ly, but later on found it was the s`eep that knows no waking. Mr. Gillies was born in Elderslie township in August, 1869. and until January 1895 spent his life upon his father’s farm naar Gillies Hill. the following two years 1895 and’96 he s ent in the Maritime are taken from the Chesley (Ont.) In poli- tics he was a warm supporter of the Patrons of Industry, because he belived them right, and defeit never lessened his fidelity to that which he counted just. I-Ie was a member of the Presby- terian church. and while. in Charlotte- town. P. E. 1. he was actively connec- ted with the Christian Endeavor Society of Zion chnach. whore his earnest. sue- ceseful work in the Society’s mission enterprises in the city will ever be re- membered and revered by his associates, who found him in thi i, as in everything else. concscrated to the caucelie be- lived in. His death was characteristic of his life, as he was of a most retiring disposition,quietly.peacefull , and alone he left this life and passed on to meet the next, leaving behind a clean, manly record and bearing a simple trusting faith in a Risen Saviour. He leaves two sisters and two brothers, Misses Marv sides in Toronto. He was at the home of his aunt Mrs. Reid ot.4th con. Eld. when he died. His remains were follow- ed by a large concourse of friends to St. Andrew’s cemetery on 4th con. where he was buried by his mother’s side.
