Last night's arrivals were taken to various points such as Carleton. Albany, Kinkora and Em. erald ans} the balarce were met in Summerslde by farmers from Northam and Port Hill. An official of the Employment Office in Summersidc told the Guardian last rnight that about one hundred more men could still be used in the Province if they are available from Nova scetia, Last el/Enllifl at least 75 imen could have been Placed had they alrrived. Tihe official oi the Employment Office pointed out that a. large number of. men frcrm Nova Scotia were being used to harvest the apple crop in that area and furthermore that quite a. numbercof labourers were going to Upper Canada to work in industrial plants. Due to this the number of men available was not as greet as perhaps it would be in other seasons. A point that perhaps has some bearing on the number of workers applying is the fact that last year return fares were provided while the men are required to pay their own way home this year. - The only exception made to this ruling is In the case of a man wihn has been injured and is unable to work. Asked regarding this year's crop Office of- ficial stated that it was not as heavy as lust. It was pointed out,’ too. that fanners throughout the Province did not plant the acreage this year that they did last season. In 1946 tire total number of men from Nova Scotia who came to this Province for this work was 875. This ycad- so far 43a men have come to Prince County and 212 to Queen's and King's, making a total of 650 this season-S. West Cape and others to Fortune Covd-How.
