Hello everyone out there in Univer- sityland! Well, it looks like it’s the end of another semester here at good old UPEI, and hasn’t it-been a great one?! We at the GEM have had an especially good year; with the new equipment that we got over the summer, and the new office that we finally moved into, things have been rolling. We managed to finish out the year with only a minimal amount of trouble. At this point we would like to thank all those who submitted to the GEM this semester, and encourage.everyone to do the same in ’89. It’s going to be a great New Year! We would also like to thank all the people, both staff members and non, who helped us work on the paper this year. You did a great job!!! We are looking forward to ’89— Let’s hope next semester will be as good as this one! Come visit us in our new office next semester. Or better yet, join our team— it’s a lot of fun. Merry Christmas, all! The GEM staff Information Update In the November 17 issue of the GEM, we printed a Pet Peeve that stated: “It really bugs me when the Vax goes down and the Computer Center staff takes a long weekend.” We would now like to clear up any confusion that this state- ment may have caused. First of all, the Vax did not “‘go down”. What happened was a disk fail- ure of the User 1 hard disk. This is the disk that holds all student, per- sonal, and faculty accounts. Failure of this disk means that anyone with one of these accounts does not have access to the Vax. However, members of the Computer Center staff, including Dave Cairns, Blair Vessey, and Mike Reid, spent the long weekend transferring stu- dent accounts to another disk so stu- dents would be able to gain access to these accounts to work on assignments. We at the GEM would like to apol- ogize to the Computer Center staff for any misunderstanding and thank them for allowing us access to their equipment for this week’s edition of the GEM.
